Trailing Equipment, Wiring & Brake Rules You Should Know

  • Factory packages and hitch types: Chevrolet specifies conventional Class II or III receiver hitches for crossovers and SUVs, plus weight-distributing equipment where appropriate. Use a hitch ball that matches your trailer coupler and gross trailer weight.

  • Wiring: 7-pin wiring is standard or available on Suburban, Tahoe and Traverse and select Blazer models, simplifying trailer-brake and lighting connections. Smaller crossovers typically use a 4-pin harness with the accessory hitch.

  • Trailer brakes: Chevrolet notes trailer brakes are required above 2,000 lb on Suburban and Tahoe, and above 1,500 lb on other Chevy SUVs. Local laws may be stricter.

EV towing tip: On long downhill grades, limit state of charge to 80 percent before departure to preserve regenerative braking while towing.

Sitting, Space & Starting Price

  • 5 passengers: Trax, Trailblazer, Equinox, Equinox EV, Blazer, Blazer EV. Starting MSRPs from $20,500 to $44,600 depending on model.

  • 7 to 8 passengers: Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban.

  • Starting MSRPs $40,700, $59,000, $62,000 respectively.
